First Lady Anita and Governor Rick Perry made a stop in Cleburne at the Chaf-In Restaurant on October 17, 2010. With a standing room only crowd the Governor and Mrs Perry was warmly greeted as they entered the dining room. The couple had spent the morning in Carrolton, Texas visiting two different churches. They flew into the Cleburne Regional Airport at 1:30 pm and then motorcade to the restaurant in their black vehicles. Mrs Perry was introduced by the Chairman of the Johnson County Republican party. She received a bouquet of fall flowers from Chaf In's owner Dan E Roberts' niece, Neely Fortinberry. Mrs Perry then introduced Governor Rick Perry. Mr Perry gave a talk on the accomplishments of his administration and a look into the future. After the brief talk Governor Perry spent over 45 minutes visiting supporters and posing with all who desired to have their picture taken with the Texas Governor. (Pictures can be viewed at www.rickperry.org, on the homepage, click on flicker pictures and look for Cleburne Grassroots.) The Perry's then motored back to the Cleburne Airport and flew back to their home in Austin. Mrs Perry sampled baked turkey and dressing while at Chaf In, and then for the trip home Chaf In provided meals for the entourage. Mrs Perry was overheard thanking Dan E Roberts for the meals, stating she would not have to cook dinner when she returned home. In our 90 years of serving Cleburne and Johnson County, this was the first visit by a Governor of the STATE of TEXAS.
